Summary of Case

"On November 26, 2022, Zahid Jan reporter of Khyber News was covering the protest outside District Headquarter hospital in Khar, Bajaur. Protesters were demanding the postmortem from Hospital staff and the hospital was not ready to do the postmortem. Zahid Jan was recording the video of the demands of protesters when one of the hospital staff msbehaved with journalist for making the video. On November 29, 2022 Journalist Zahid Jan told PPF that he was covering a protest when the DHQ hospital staff attacked him. “In result of violence my mobile phone broke and I fell on the ground and right after the incident I went to Khar police station and filed complaint” Jan added. On November 28, 2022 president of Bajaur press club Hasbunallah Khan told PPF that hospital staff harassed and attacked the Journalist for making the video of the protest and the Press club wants fair investigation from police and government. On November 29, 2022 vice president of Khyber Union of Journalist Abdul Bashir Qalandar told PPF that the Union is investigating the matter and he is not sure whether the incident is related to Journalism or not. On November 29, 2022 Muhammad Waseem assistant controller news of AVT Khyber told PPF that two locals of Bajaur were allegedly murdered by unknown persons and for which they were protesting outside the hospital because hospital staff refused to do postmortem of the deceased bodies. Zahid went hospital to cover the potest and the In charge of the hospital attacked on him and in result of assault journalist’s glasses and camera was broken. On November 29, 2022 Station House Officer of Khar Police station Saeed Ur Rehman told PPF that police is investigating the matter and police have registered a complaint but we cannot file FIR of such an incident and in a couple of days police will share their final findings with the DPO."
